What is the difference between ROAS and contribution margin?

ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) is a platform metric: revenue divided by ad spend. It does not include COGS, fulfilment, or any other cost. Contribution margin subtracts all variable costs from revenue. A campaign can show 400% ROAS and still be unprofitable if COGS is high. Fairview shows you the real number.

Do I need Google Ads conversion tracking configured?

No — Fairview connects to Google Ads and pulls spend data regardless. However, conversion data (which campaigns drove purchases) is only available if Google Ads conversion tracking is configured in your account. Without it, Fairview pairs ad spend with revenue from Stripe or Shopify via UTM parameters.

Which campaigns does Fairview analyse?

All active campaigns in your connected Google Ads account — Search, Shopping, Display, Performance Max, and YouTube. Spend is pulled at campaign, ad group, and keyword level. Paused and removed campaigns are excluded by default.

Does Fairview connect Google Ads spend to Stripe revenue?

Yes, when you connect both integrations. Fairview pairs Google Ads spend data with Stripe revenue using UTM parameters on your checkout links. This gives you revenue-per-campaign, which combined with Xero or QuickBooks cost data produces true contribution margin per campaign.

Does Fairview write anything back to Google Ads?

No. Fairview is read-only. It reads spend, conversions, and ROAS signals from Google Ads. It never pauses campaigns, adjusts bids, or modifies any settings in your Google Ads account.

What Google account access level do I need?

Any Google account with read access to the Google Ads account works. Admin access is not required. If you manage multiple ad accounts (MCC), you can connect at the MCC level to pull data from all child accounts.
