FAQ
Shopify-specific. No fluff.
Does Fairview require UTM parameters to work with Shopify?
No — Fairview connects to Shopify and pulls order data regardless. However, channel attribution (knowing which marketing channel drove each order) requires UTM parameters on your checkout URLs. Without UTMs, orders are attributed to "Direct / Unknown."
Does Shopify alone give me SKU-level margin?
No. Shopify gives you revenue by SKU. To calculate margin, Fairview also needs your cost data — either from QuickBooks or Xero. With a finance integration connected, Fairview can calculate contribution margin at the SKU level automatically.
What additional data is available on Shopify Plus?
Shopify Plus plans provide access to additional APIs including B2B order data, more granular customer segmentation, and expanded checkout event data. Fairview uses these when available but works fully on standard Shopify plans.
How does Fairview handle refunds?
Fairview reads refund records from Shopify and reverses the revenue attribution for the original order. This means your revenue-by-channel and revenue-by-SKU figures are net of refunds. Refund rates by product line are also surfaced in the dashboard.
Does Fairview write anything back to Shopify?
No. Fairview is read-only. It reads your order, product, and customer data from Shopify to power revenue and margin analysis. Nothing is ever written back to your Shopify store.
How is the Shopify integration installed?
Install the Fairview app from the Shopify App Store, then authorise access. The connection takes about 3 minutes. No code changes are needed in your Shopify theme or checkout flow.
