The Operating Intelligence Index 2026.
How fragmented is the operator's stack? How long does it take to answer a Monday morning question? How many dashboards does the average COO actually use?
We're surveying 1,200 mid-market operators — COOs, CFOs, CROs, Heads of RevOps, founders — to build the first definitive benchmark on operating intelligence in 2026.
No spam. We'll only email you when the report publishes.
What the Index measures
Dashboard count per operator
How many dashboards does the average operator open weekly? Median? 90th percentile? How has this changed since 2020?
Time to a Monday answer
When a leader asks "what's happening with margin in Channel X?" — how long until they actually have the answer?
Reconciliation tax
How many hours/week are operating teams spending manually reconciling data across tools? By company stage and motion.
Forecast accuracy by stage
How does forecast accuracy correlate with company stage, ARR, motion, and tech stack maturity?
Operating cadence health
Weekly review attendance, prep quality, decision-yield. The cadence variables that predict operating performance.
Analyst-to-operator ratio
How many analysts does the average company employ per $10M ARR? How has the ratio shifted since AI tools matured?
How we're running it
Sample size: 1,200 operators. Confidence interval ±2.8% at 95% confidence on aggregate stats; ±5–8% on sub-segment cuts (e.g., "DTC brands $5–25M GMV").
Recruitment: Distributed via the Fairview operator network, Pavilion, RevOps Co-op, the Operators Guild, and select VC partner portfolios. Stratified to ensure representative coverage across ARR/GMV bands, geographies, and motions (B2B SaaS, DTC, marketplace, subscription, hybrid).
Questions: 28 closed-ended questions (Likert + multiple choice) plus 4 open-ended decision-quality scenarios. Median completion time: 11 minutes. Field period: June–August 2026.
Validation: Cross-referenced against Bessemer State of the Cloud, KeyBanc SaaS Survey, and OpenView SaaS Benchmarks for sample-frame health. Independent statistical review prior to publication.
Ethics: Individual responses are de-identified at intake and not shared with Fairview customer-facing teams. Respondents who provide identifying contact info receive the full report and an embargoed preview.
What the report won't say
Fairview is the publisher and pays for the survey. We'd lose credibility instantly if the Index conveniently proved Fairview\'s product is necessary. So we don't write it that way.
- The Index reports patterns, not product recommendations.
- If the data shows operators are doing fine without operating intelligence platforms, that\'s what we'll publish.
- Sub-segment cuts are pre-registered. We can\'t cherry-pick the segments where Fairview's positioning looks best.
- Raw aggregated data tables will be available alongside the narrative report. Reviewers can validate every claim.

Reference frame
The Operating Intelligence Index 2026 is designed to extend and complement these existing benchmark studies — not duplicate them. Where our methodology overlaps (e.g., ARR-band cuts on operating efficiency), we publish reconciliation footnotes.
